This colourful family tree travels with me to calligraphy workshops around Cumbria as an example of modern calligraphy! I adore it - the shine of the Coliro inks makes it really special.
At my classes I teach with black ink on white paper, before moving to white or colour ink for the end of the class. And I always encourage people to continue their calligraphy adventures in colour! Calligraphy is art now, we learn it as a mindful hobby and something to sink happily into and enjoy - and by adding colour, we spark excitement in our creations!
The images I've included in this little blog post show the pencil lines I used to guide me in illustrating the family tree, and for writing the names. I've kept them on the piece, because they're really useful to show people learning calligraphy for the first time. Yes, I use a pencil! (I love pencils - not quite as much as my kittens, but there are always pencils on my calligraphy desk!)

I have some incredible black paper in my studio, and I'd love to create more family trees with these colours. A commission might start from £200 depending on the number of names. It would be completely unique, and entirely hand painted.
If you would like to have one of these lovely, one-of-a-kind* family trees to give as a gift to someone special, please get in touch. You can email me at hello@bymoonandtide.co.uk

*Confession time: I think I've lost this example at one of my workshops! I suspect it will reappear when I'm least expecting it - I'm shocking at bundling everything into a pile of paper and stuffing it into a bag when I've finished teaching!
